LONDON, England - Wednesday saw no dramatic developments in the investigation but instead witnessed a steady drip of reports and information about what happened and how.

Up to twenty people were arrested but none of the gunmen responsible for the attack were apparently among them.

Many have commented on the apparent ease with which the gunmen melted away into the city after the attack, and suggested this points to them receiving assistance from rogue elements within the military or the intelligence structure. While there may or may not have been collaboration of this kind, it's a mistake to make this assumption on this piece of evidence alone.

It's easy, for instance, to forget that the men who tried to bomb London on July 21st, 2005 were also able to make good their escape and hide undetected for days. Some of those men, remember, were escaping, unarmed, from busy underground railway stations. It was six days before the Met police had the first would-be bomber under arrest, and detectives in London had all the benefits of the city's massive CCTV infrastructure at their disposal. Lahore, it seems safe to suggest, and notwithstanding the new video out Wednesday evening, is not quite so well endowed with surveillance cameras.

What's more interesting is the number of reports now suggesting that the gunmen were carrying far more arms and ammunition than would be needed to execute an ambush only. Add to that the multiple reports they were also carrying dried fruit, nuts and water bottles in their rucksacks, and it does seem to point towards the possibility they had intended taking the Sri Lankan cricket team hostage. This possible scenario, of course, provides further similarities with the Mumbai attack three months ago.

Perhaps predictably, there have been growing voices blaming India for Tuesday's attack. Hamid Gul, former head of Pakistan's military intelligence agency, has described it as "all too obviously the handiwork of Indian intelligence." Meanwhile, Pakistan's serving Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, has said he does not "rule out a foreign hand." Foreign hand is code for India, of course.

It's not surprising that Pakistan's government might wish to point the finger abroad. At home and around the world, it has been slammed over this security failure. Whether or not individual police officers did their duty on the day – and one can understand why suggestions they did not have hurt when six police were killed in the attack – it doesn't seem unreasonable to suggest that the ruling party's squabble with its political rivals might also have played a part in the failure.

Last month saw the dismissal of the provincial government in Punjab – of which Lahore is the capital – run by the party of Nawaz Sharif, the main nationwide opposition figure to President Asif Ali Zardari. Along with the outgoing administration, the most senior figures in the province's police force were also removed from their jobs. Faced, then, with a major security challenge – policing an international cricket match – it seems some of the main men responsible were still getting their feet under their new desks.

hi , now it is fast approaching high time for the world to declare the Pakistan – A FAILED state . the day to day news of crime and bomb blast on the streat remind the picture i have seen from Somalia . the way firing took place at shilankan cricketer at lahore , second biggest city in Pakistan , remind the seen of some african country in war zone whare the life has got no cost no respect of humanity at all. and what is surprising and frustating is the denial od the Pakistan authirity after the incidence . they r trying thare best to cover up the whole episode with some nonsence idoitic excuses. thare is no dought that the ISI has hand in gloves with the terrorist organisation since long time .
what the big watch dog r doing in world , like USA , UK and other western power ??? they r not awarae of all this fact or what???
still they r coming up for help to pakistan. they should remmember that -'each penny they give to Pakistan for help will use against them only one day' .
it seems the biggest mistake by great Bush , rather the sleep of tongue when he name the axis of Devil in past but forget to name Pakistan in that list. i don't think todays world the korea or iran is dangerous for world then Pakistan. thare may be difference of opinion with korea and iran with USA . but the pakistan is really more dangerous in present world and time to come in future. i will not surprise if some thing like 9/11 designed from the soil of pakistan or controlled by pakistan . till now the worl has not paid enough ear to the hue and cry made by India after mumbai attack or after any other terrorost attack so far in India , but time is coming when u all will suffer from this barberic crime organised by a failed state of pakistan .so wake up West and USA , do some thing needfull at earliest .put all short of pressure on pakistan .

well in my opinion the attack on srilankan team was not the handiwork of taleban or any other element in pakistan . let me prove that one by one.
firstly if the attack had been conducted by taleban, there would have been suicide attack and not firing and running away. we can say this in the basis of historic evidence. secondly the taleban would gain nothing with this attack except public hatredness wich i think they dont want.

the only player who stands to earn from this is india. it was a reprisal for mumbai attack which the foolish indians thinks was done by pakistan. with this attack india has damaged pakistan credibility .

so in my opinion this attack was conducted by india.

Sankara a typical Indian very well done . see how hate he has against Pakistan.so Sankara you think that India is very innocent country who destroyed babari mosque in India because of India Bangladesh cut from Pakistan who is killing Kashmirs Assam people who want freedom from india have you seen the grave yards in Kashmir of Kashmirs that killed by indian army who killed 75 Pakistani in samjata express train and now India is trying to make problems for pakistan in balochistan i am 100% sure that attacks on sirlanka team was done by india coz india always supports LTTE thats why sirlanka has good relation with pakistan not with india.who test neular bombs first india.Every day christain and muslims killed by hinduoo extremist the problem is that india never accept Pakistan as a country .many Muslim dead in indian gujarat by hinduo.
i think now time is come when world should treat pakistan and india equally and world should pressure on India to give freedom to Kashmir. And don't worry Pakistan is fighting against Taliban and ALqeda and we will win war against them .
